Today we held this year's Junior Malloch Winners day on FishPonds beat, River Tay.
It's days like this that you enjoy more than most! In the expert hands of world spey casting champion Scott Mackenzie and head ghillie Iain Kirk the young anglers were full of enthusiasm and grinning from ear to ear.
This year the winners were aged 8 to 15 years old and were brilliant. Boy could they fish! We have a full report, including fish caught in next weeks newsletter.
FishPal created the Junior Malloch Award three years ago with our friends Scott Mackenzie of Mackenzie Fly Fishing, Malcolm Anderson of Caledonia Flies and Iain Kirk of Scone Palace Estate. They have continued to support us with their time and energy since the start and we would like to thank them. This award has encouraged more young people to go fishing in Scotland.
I'm sure Mr Peter Duncan Malloch, a man of humble parentage, would be proud that young anglers fishing any Scottish river for salmon, can be recognised in this national award.
We believe at FishPal that salmon fishing is for all ages and abilities. We have fishing on the site from as little as £10 a day. Currently there are 99,413 fishing permits on the system.
Give the office a call on 01573 470612 and let us organise your fishing trip.
Have a wonderful week whatever you are doing and don't forget if you are out and about, keep sending in your river photos.
Philip Taylor with his 32lb salmon off Islamouth on the fly, Saturday.
Salmon were landed last week in far more favourable conditions with improving numbers after the change in conditions. The numbers were very encouraging with around 130 salmon recorded, making it the rivers best week of the season so far, signaling a better summer run and improving grilse numbers. The improving conditions also meant some of the resident fish became more active also. The coming week will show how strong a run comes as it will be by far the best conditions we have encountered for weeks - read more.
The Tummel is seeing fish continue on their journey now, with around 2000 fish through the ladder.

You can't fish too small a fly for salmon in low water conditions.
You look at the the vast display of flies in front of you and pick a few size 12 doubles and a few 1/2 inch tube flies. Go smaller, they will be more likely to come to smaller patterns than a large size 10 or 12 - read more.
Size 14 or a size 12 Nordic double sparsely dressed, another great option is size 16 micro trebles these are deadly when fished on full floaters with a fluorocarbon to get them just to sit in the surface film. Rod and line choice are critical as well, switch rods or even a single handed rod is advisable with a 7 weight floating line - read more.
Philip Black releasing his fish.
The rise in water levels brought fish into the river in good numbers last week and the accompanying drop in water temperatures also brought the resident fish on the take. It also helped produce an exciting few days. Things tailed off later in the week, as the water temperature crept upwards. A final score of 217 fish was a welcome boost for everyone. Most of the fresher fish and some of the residents were grilse - read more.
