1. All salmon fishing on Glen Tanar beats is 100% catch and release in conjunction with the Dee Conservation
Code.
2. The Deecastle fishing beat is from the top of Pol Slachd to the bottom of the Boat Pool.
3. The meeting point for the beat is the lay-by just to the north of Dinnet Bridge. The bridge is just south of
Dinnet village on a short link road between the B976 south Deeside road and the A93 Aboyne to Ballater road.
All parties must meet at 9.00 am.
4. Access to the beat is by car on certain routes and foot for the remainder. The route past Dinnet House is
closed. Access to the north bank is via the North Lodge directly from the A93. Care is to be taken to avoid
disturbance or damage to livestock or crops.
5. Fishing system: The beat has two fishing periods, spring, and summer. The Spring period runs from the 1
st of
March – 29th of June (4 rods up to 23/03/25, 6 rods from then to 30/06/25). The summer fishing period is from
30th of June – 30th of September (2 rods). For the spring period, there is a bank sharing agreement with the
Dinnet beat opposite. In the spring periods, the beat is split into six sections. Fishers rotate around the sections
daily. The changeover to the following day’s water takes place at 5.00 p.m. each day. In the summer fishing
period, only two rods fish the beat. Fishers must NOT fish Pol Slachd, '29' or Bruiach before 11am. This is the
beat rotation we have agreed with the opposite Dinnet bank during the summer fishing period.
6. Fishing etiquette: When starting in a pool a minimum separation from fishers on the opposite bank of one
hundred meters upstream or fifty meters downstream should be maintained. Fishers should maintain steady
progress through a pool. Fishers should avoid other fishermen when they are playing a fish. Fishers must also
respect other people’s use of the water or land they are on and act responsibly. Dogs are not permitted on the
riverbank unless kept under control.
7. Rod sharing: rod sharing is not allowed
8. Fishing methods: Fly fishing only is permitted. All hooks should be barbless or the barbs crimped. Treble hooks
are not permitted.
9. Injured or damaged fish: All injured or damaged fish are to be handed to the proprietor or their
representative.
10. Ghillie: If the services of a ghillie are provided and arranged in advance, they will be provided from 9 am to 5
pm Monday to Saturday for the period up to 30th of June 2025. The ghillie is in charge of the fishery when
present and instructions from the ghillie or other member of staff must be complied with. A minimum of one
person must be nominated as the contact with the estate and contact details must be provided in advance to
either the estate or the ghillie for each day.
11. Catch returns: Correct detailed records, showing dates on which fish were caught and killed, and which were
released, their weights, names of pools, and from which bank taken, must be submitted to this office. These
records are normally kept by the ghillie in the spring period, but it is your responsibility to ensure that
appropriate records are kept for your fishing party.
12. Safety & Disease Control: Please ensure that all fishers comply with fishing Instructions and the safety code
laid out on the Angling Safety Sheet, a copy of which will be sent to you with the confirmation of your booking.
All fishers must supply and wear suitable buoyancy aid while fishing. All anglers are requested to read and act
upon the biosecurity measures in place for each beat to prevent the introduction of Gyrodactylus salaris and
other diseases to the Dee. This will involve the disinfection of waders and landing nets before fishing.
13. Subletting: You cannot sublet the fishing you book without our permission and then only by private
arrangement and at the same prices and conditions as for this booking. No agent other than ourselves may be
used to obtain a sublet.
14. Law & Other Issues: The law of Scotland shall apply to this contract. No terms may be changed without written
permission. We reserve the right to refuse a booking. Your acceptance of the contract will occur when you
make the payment. Tenants must ensure all guests have read and understood these terms and conditions.
15. GDPR: Your personal information will be shared with Dinnet Estate to provide the best service possible. This
complies with GDPR law.
