Aperçu

The Haukadalsa River in West Iceland is 8km long with 40 marked fishing spots. It is fabulous fly fishing water, with a strong atlantic salmon run. The fully catered Hauka Lodge is modern and comfortable.

On the Haukadalsa River you will find long, rocky banks with flow that includes slow, steady, strong currents and everything in between. The river is ideal for a floating line and small flies, and adventurous guests will find the riffle hitch is very effective. Access to the river is easy and many areas are within walking distance of the house. The river is limited to just five rods, each with its own dedicated fishing area. The river offers a fabulous opportunity to catch atlantic salmon, and also boasts trophy brown trout. Fishing is fly only. Catch and release is strongly encouraged although one fish per day below 70cm may be kept. It is mandatory to release all salmon over 70 cm. There is no quota for trout fishing. The fishing season runs from 20th June to 19th September. Anglers are accommodated in the modern and extremely comfortable Fishing House on a full board basis. There are 5 double rooms. Rod sharing is permitted. The lodge is situated overlooking the river and many of the best pools are walkable, with the others reached via a short drive.

The schedule is as follows: fish a half day in the afternoon on day of arrival, followed by full days fishing, and then fish a half day on the morning on day of departure. This means you will get, for example, four full days fishing spread over five calendar days. The exact beat rotation will be established at the Lodge on your day of arrival.

The fishing and lodge are to be taken together, generally all five rods must be taken for three days. The Hauka Lodge is full board including three meals a day, coffee and snacks.
