Crieff Angling Club beats offer some excellent fishing on the River Earn amongst the beautiful Strathearn scenery, rich in wildlife. The Earn is smaller than the River Tay and is a very manageable size. The river varies in speed throughout its length and can offer a delightful mix of fast water and slow pools.
Sea trout catches are best in May to July while salmon, though they can be caught throughout the season, are most prolific in autumn. Summer water levels can be low, ideal conditions would be at least a foot of water showing on the FishPal gauge at Dalginross.
The visitor salmon season runs from 1st February to 31st October though sea trout fishing finishes at the end of August for reasons of conservation, and for the grayling angler, there is a good head of quality grayling on Drummond Castle waters, the season being 15th November to 15 th January.
The larger Drummond Castle beat starts at the bridge in Crieff and runs downstream for 2.7 miles.
River access is principally limited to the south bank and mainly requires the use of thigh waders for fly fishing. 5 salmon/ sea trout and 10 brown trout permits are available.
The smaller Strowan beat runs from about a ½ mile east of Comrie and runs east for 1.25 miles. Though theoretically double bank, access is in practice limited to the southbank. 5 salmon/ sea trout and 10 brown trout permits are available.
There are 6 grayling tickets available on both beats.
