Haddo House Angling Club

Fishery

Haddo House Angling Club offers 6 mile of prime salmon and sea trout water on the river Ythan with pristine banks and brilliant access and easy fishing.

Although a club, HHAC is very lightly fished. All three beats fish very well after a spate. Fishing is mainly from the Right Bank. Visiting anglers are always made to feel very welcome, with club members actively encouraged to assist with providing information on all aspects.

HHAC really comes alive from June onward for Sea Trout given a little rain  and at the back end of the season with impressive numbers of salmon taken versus number of rods fishing. Haddo feel that October is often Haddo's most productive month, when many other fisheries have closed for the season. Haddo fishes up until 31st October.

The topmost beat is known as Gight and comprises of single and double bank fishing. The southern bank extends down to the middle beat called the Methlick water, then on to the lower beat called The Tarves water. The Tarves water was originally reserved for guests of Haddo House, but is now being managed by Haddo House Angling Club.

All beats can be very productive, Gight is excellent in high water, where its deep pools encourage the running fish to stop, an added bonus is the spectacular surroundings of the trees, large rocks and wild life, it is not unusual to see Deer, Heron, Hawks, Osprey and the occasional Otter.

The Methlick and Tarves waters fish better in a dropping water, these beats have a mixture of deep pools and faster water which is excellent for fly fishing.

August, September and October are especially good, Salmon of over 20lbs are recorded most years, the local Ythan View Hotel has a photograph of a 38 lb fish taken on the Ythan.

Spinning is allowed, worming is only permitted in October.
