Regarded very much as Middle Tweed, Lower Makerstoun is let as a two rod beat and is located five miles upstream of Kelso and in one of the most secluded, private and photogenic parts of the river in the Tweed Valley.

Regarded very much as middle Tweed, Makerstoun is a four-rod beat (two rods on Lower Makerstoun and two on Upper Makerstoun) located five miles upstream of Kelso and is one of the most private and photogenic parts of the river.
The whole beat is one and a half miles in length and has sixteen named pools ranging from deep flowing gullies to fast, well oxygenated streams, offering the salmon angler an excellent selection of water.
Both Upper and Lower Makerstoun share the services of the estate boatman from February through to the end of June. From September through to the end of the the season each beat has a full-time boatman. During the summer lets, no boatman is supplied.
Lower Makerstoun is let as a two-rod beat and is just over three-quarters of a mile in length. The beat benefits from a newly refurbished fishing hut with kitchen and toilet facilities, finished to a high standard. Lower Makerstoun has eight named pools with vehicle access to the entire length of the beat by a well maintained track. The fishing is slightly more varied than the Upper beat with the lower section of th beat running through deep rocky gullies. The beat is serviced by four Tweed style fishing boats.
