This beat combines excellent fishing on the most stunning location on the river.
The stretch is one mile long, with two-thirds of it double bank fishing, and provides some most interesting quality fishing, with a pool or stream for every height of water.

The river loops past the Eildon Hills in a beautiful wooded gorge giving fishers complete seclusion from the outside world.

There is an excellent hut with fully equipped kitchen and gas BBQ available for tenants use on the middle beat for all rods. There are four boats, two for fishing and two for ferrying from bank to bank. Access is by car down a private track to a small parking area about 100ft above the rod hut. From there the path is too steep for vehicles and you have to walk the remaining short distance.

From the 1st February to 8th September 2018 one ghillie is employed and four rods fish each day on a syndicate basis (Please contact us to be placed on the waiting list in case anything arises) From the 10th September 2018, six rods are let on a daily basis with two ghillies provided. During this period, the beat is split into three, with rods fishing in pairs and rotating on an am/pm basis.

Please note that because of the steep banks you should be a reasonable walker and wader to fish this beat.

Tue 20th August

Farr Side to 15th August 2019

After a very big flood last week the water is now settling currently 2 foot 4 on gauge. There has been some good fishing last few days with Sea Trout and Salmon landed in much need numbers. Some very fresh ones and some coloured. We have been fishing fast tips and no 8 flies, Blue Gledswood doing well today both fresh fish. With fish showing up above Kelso now, here is hoping for next few weeks and to the end of the season.

Regards
Ian

Farr Side to 4th August 2019

Here we are at the end of July, it’s been a mixed month with the weather seeing water most weeks up to 2 ft 6, it carried a lot of beer colour which should of been good for the sea trout. 3 where landed and a few lost but we expected a few more on the back of numbers reported down river. Fingers crossed we get a big late run.

With the Salmon we ended up with 15 most of them fresh run. Fishing the Sunray did well for Fiona Brown, her first try she landed a 8lbs fresh fish out the Boat Pool and the same with William Stebbings a 5lbs fish! The others came on a variety of flies, Blue Gledswood and Silver Stoat doing well. The Stream and Boat Pool have fished well this month with Woodside keeping it's end up! Some changes to the scenery at Woodside all the Softwoods are being taken out on the Ravenswood side, this might let the wind in on a bad day. I have been busy catching up with the weed cutting and strimming the banks. The water is dropping away of the gauge now so waiting for the next flood to bring some more fish in. Fingers Crossed

Farr Side to 11th July 2019

July is here and so is summer, 23 fish for the season so far certainly better than last year. All but 2 of the fish have been fresh with the biggest 17lbs out of Woodside. All we need now is lots of rain to see if the summer fish are about. With the nets being of it might help the catches. With the low water we would expect the lower beats to be getting fish at the moment but not much about looking at the catches. Thunder storms expected so we might get a flash flood soon. There are a lot more Sea Trout about this year, we are seeing a few in the evenings. Reports are they are further down the river but they will get to us. Let's hope so they are good sport on the small rod.

Farr Side to 19th March 2019

After lots of rain the last week we are back on the river today, 3 foot on the gauge so a big water. The colour is dropping out now and we have two rods fishing the fly. After the big floods of last week some fresh fish should be coming up the system now we just need to keep trying and we will get some fish soon. It’s a settled forecast for the rest of week so the water should drop slowly and keep the fish moving, here’s hoping.

The Farr Side to Saturday 9th March 2019

Dear All,

Well here we are in March the last few weeks have just flown by. February was a strange month, warm weather and very little rain to speak off, we fished most days but not with a full complement a little too early in the season for some. So no fish in February for us but there seem to be a few starting to move up river with both Mertoun and Lower Dryburgh reporting fresh fish.

March has been completely different, cold, wet, windy. We lost most of last week to floods and coloured water although we desperately needed this rain as the ground was very dry, there’s more rain to come the next few days so I hope it will bring some more fish in from the sea and push the February fish up the river.

Not much change to the beat this year, some small gravel shift at top of the Boat Pool and a little top of Woodside. The Dish has been cleared of overhanging branches to make it easier to get up the side.

The Oyster Catchers have been here for a while and the Dippers are nesting and I have also seen the Kingfisher a few times and as always Harry the Otter is here.
