Overview

Catholes offers good spinning and fly fishing from bank and anchored boat in mostly small easily covered pools. Although known as an excellent spring beat it can offer good summer and autumn sport as well, due to its attractive streamy water

The beat is situated about six miles from the top reaches of the tidal water in Perth. In the spring with water temperatures being low, the salmon tend to have their first stop in the waters around Stanley because of the dramatic rise in gradient and the Weir at the top of the Catholes thus making it a prime early spring beat.

Catholes best have been looking hard at modern fishing trends and how they can improve the experience of visiting anglers. The resulting reduction of the number of rods fishing these beats at any one time to 4 has been well received. This will increase the time that individual fishers spend on the productive pools, giving fishers more time in the boat and give the pools more time to rest. Catholes are confident that these measures will increase the catches per rod per day and elevate the experience of fishing beats to a new level. Fishing is increasingly an escape from the pressures of the modern world and the reduction in rod pressure has been greeted with great enthusiasm by regular rods.

Catholes fishes six rods per day and has an excellent hut at the bottom of the beat.

The beat has 13 named pools including The Slap, The Pot, Gean Tree, Little Cast, Catholes Stream, Black Stones, Back Dam, Lucknow, Eric’s, Geoff’s, Freddie’s Woodside and The Little Head.

Spring Fishing

The Catholes is one of the best early spring beats on the Tay. It can be fished together with Benchil and Pitlochrie on an alternative day basis until the end of April (depending on which days you book).

Summer Fishing

During the months of May, June and July, day lets are available from the bank but without a ghillie and boat.

Autumn Fishing

Daily lets are available with a ghillie and boat as well as bank rods without a ghillie. The beat can be fished with Luncarty on an alternative day basis.

Bob White has 40 years experience in angling for Atlantic salmon and has extensive fishing knowledge on the Tay.

Bob can offer tuition in overhead and Spey casting techniques and is a G Loomis pro guide. Tackle can be supplied.

The owners are anglers and support the Tay District Salmon Fisheries Boards conservation measures and consequently would encourage all tenants to follow these guidelines.
