1000 yard double bank, boat and bank ghillied fishing with a comfortable hut and wc just above Stanley Mills.
Streamy water, pools and rapids with an emphasis on traditional anchored boat and bank fishing.
Fly fishing friendly.
Catholes is available six days a week in various formats.
Catholes offers good spinning and fly fishing from bank and anchored boat in mostly small easily covered pools. Although known as an excellent spring beat it can offer good summer and autumn sport as well, due to its attractive streamy water
The beat is situated about six miles from the top reaches of the tidal water in Perth. In the spring with water temperatures being low, the salmon tend to have their first stop in the waters around Stanley because of the dramatic rise in gradient and the Weir at the top of the Catholes thus making it a prime early spring beat.
On Catholes we have been looking hard at modern fishing trends and how they can improve the experience of visiting anglers. As a result we have decided to reduce the number of rods fishing our beats at any one moment from 6 to 4. This will increase the time that individual fishers spend on the productive pools, give our fishers more time in the boat and give the pools more time to rest. We are confident that these measures will increase the catches per rod per day and elevate the experience of fishing our beats to a new level. Fishing is increasingly an escape from the pressures of the modern world and the reduction in rod pressure has been greeted with great enthusiasm by our regular rods.
Catholes fishes six rods per day and has an excellent hut at the bottom of the beat.
The beat has 13 named pools including The Slap, The Pot, Gean Tree, Little Cast, Catholes Stream, Black Stones, Back Dam, Lucknow, Eric's, Geoff's, Freddie's Woodside and The Little Head.
The Catholes is one of the best early spring beats on the Tay. It can be fished together with Benchil and Pitlochrie on an alternative day basis until the end of April (depending on which days you book).
During the months of May, June and July, day lets are available from the bank but without a ghillie and boat.
Daily lets are available with a ghillie and boat as well as bank rods without a ghillie. The beat can be fished with Luncarty on an alternative day basis.
Bob White has 40 years experience in angling for Atlantic salmon and has extensive fishing knowledge on the Tay.
Bob can offer tuition in overhead and Spey casting techniques and is a G Loomis pro guide. Tackle can be supplied.
The owners are anglers and support the Tay District Salmon Fisheries Boards conservation measures and consequently would encourage all tenants to follow these guidelines.

Last Report for 2020.
It was a reasonably quiet end to the season with only a few fish landed over the last week. The river was surrounded with Autumn gold but there was little evidence of silver in the river confirming that there was no late back end run.
In the last few days Gerry Martin landed a nice fish in Luncarty pool from the boat.
David Brand landed a smaller salmon on the fly from Luncarty.David and Ray Gardiner enjoyed a good day in the boat finally capturing fish at the end of the day. lastly Ranald Allan caught 3 salmon on a floating Devon again in Luncarty on the second last day.
It has been a good season overall with improvements in catches especially over the summer period. There is certainly renewed optimism for next season. Our availability for 2021 is all ready on Fishpal but you can contact me directly at firstname.lastname@example.org as well. We amassed some 130 salmon off our Catholes, Pitlochrie, Benchil and Luncarty beats this year with just under 70% being caught on fly and achieved 92% Catch and Release.
Looking forward to seeing you next season.
