The D&GAA control 2.5 miles of the River Nith, the water is suitable for the Fly, Worm and Spinning dependant on conditions.

We also control the majority of the River Cairn the main tributary of the River Nith, about 15+ miles in total. Purchasing a Nith tickets also allows you to the fish the River Cairn and we also run the Drum Loch at Dalswinton, Nith tickets holders can get concessionary rates for this.

During the past two years and for conservation purposes, restrictions have been in place , in 2016 we were a category 3 river resulting it a mandatory catch and release policy, in 2017 we were a category 2 river, this allowed for a small harvest of wild Salmon, however we still achieved, as an association, a catch & release figure in excess of 83%. For the 2018 season we have been graded a category 1, which again allows a small harvest of wild salmon, however we the committee have decided that, given our commitment to conservation, there will remain in place a season limit on all D&GAA members, season visitors and regional ticket holder of a season limit of TWO fish that can be retained during the 2018 season, as per the 2017 season, Day tickets visitor are restricted to ONE fish that can be retained if fishing 1-5 days with a maximum of up to TWO for the season if greater than 5 days

Dumfries and Galloway Angling Association have suspended all Administration / Joining fees until the 1st April, this is normally £50. The "Regional Ticket" is for residents living out with the 10 mile limit but within 20 miles of MidSteeple (as the crow flies). Fees are the same as for full members at £120 for the season plus a one off administration fee of £50. For this you have access to fishing for over 17 miles of double and single bank along the Nith and Cairn for Salmon, Sea Trout, Wild Brown Trout and Grayling. There are vacancies for local, regional and non local (Season Visitor) tickets though these are limited. If you are interested in one of these tickets then please contact me vie email or the phone number below.

The D&GAA beat starts just upstream from the viaduct aside the Golf Course on the outskirts of Dumfries town and runs north into the farmland of the Nith valley. Although double bank fishing all of the way, most pools lend themselves to being fished from either the left or right bank, with only a few pools fishable from both. To download a pdf of the current DGAA leaflet and map please click here. The water lends itself to the fly, worm and spinner which are all permitted methods on any height of water. Wading in most places is easy, though there are a few deep holes so be aware or seek advice From the Carnsalloch Car Park to the top of the beat is about a mile across farm land and if the fields are flooded you will need to follow the flood bank until you are opposite the riverside fishing hut, there are some deep gully's within the fields where the river used to flow. The purchase of a River Nith ticket also allows you to also fish the River Cairn the main tributary of the Nith of which the association controls approximately 15.5 miles of either double or single bank. For more on the River Cairn go to the Cairn page. Catch Statistics are not updated daily as this is an association water and members are not require to inform the Secretary until the season closes of their catch, though any information is greatly appreciated, we also have a web page and for more information
