The Deveron has the fifth highest salmon and sea trout rod catch in Scotland can holds the record for the heaviest Atlantic salmon caught on the fly in the UK. The fish weighed 61 lbs and was caught by Mrs. Clementina "Tiny" Morison on 21st October 1924.
The salmon fishing season on the Deveron opens on 11th February and closes on 31st October. The brown trout season commences on 15th March to the 6th October.
A day on the river for a spring salmon can be worthwhile. The river relies on snow melt during the early months to feed into the system and there is also a chance of hooking into a fresh run fish. Fish are typically Multiple Sea Winter fish, which have spent at least 2 years feeding at sea.
Brown trout fishing is excellent from March onwards. Trout fishing on the Deveron is noted as one of the best in the UK.
Sea trout begin to enter the system from mid May onwards through summer. Grilse start to enter early July onwards. The River Deveron Summers have seen improvements in 2019 and again in 2020.
Autumn often has prolific runs of fish. From late summer onwards runs of salmon arrive into the river system.
