Overview

Upper Blackhall is 3 miles west of Banchory on the south bank of the Dee. It is perhaps the most private beat on the river, it is outstandingly beautiful and lovingly looked after.

The beat has 15 pools, is over 1.5 miles long offering a selection of fishing whatever the river conditions. It is normally restricted to 3 rods though, in conditions favourable, the Ghillie may allow 4 rods to fish.

At the top of the beat is the famous Morel pool which holds fish throughout the season and is the only pool that is inaccessible by vehicle. The top hut overlooks the prestigious Scobboc pool that again fishes in all heights of water. The most famous pool is the Ferroch opposite Cairnton and, with a large hut overlooking it, is a dream to fish besides being very productive in medium to low water. At the bottom of the beat is the Grey Mare which also fishes in all heights of water and is another substantial holding pool.

There are several local Ghillies who know the beat well and can be booked to help you, so please get in touch if you need that service. They start from £80-100 a day and I can assure you, you will be well looked after.

The beat is offered with accommodation at The Stables which was refurbished in 2015 to a high standard. It is a short drive on private road from the centre of the beat. It has 3 twin bedrooms and 1 double bedroom. The sitting room and dining room are spacious and comfortable and the new kitchen is very well equipped. Essentially, all one needs for a comfortable stay.

The house is looked after meticulously by Jenny, and your evening meal can be cooked by the very experienced Joan Sinclair. The house and the help that goes with it make a real holiday for everyone and is ideal for families too. The area offers a wide variety of pursuits besides fishing.

Dogs under reasonable control are welcome on the river and in the house. In the house, dogs are not permitted upstairs and must be dry and clean downstairs. For accommodation enquiries please contact Venetia or Annabel on the details provided.
