Being the 1st stretch of
river from the sea, we see a
good run of fish every month
of the year and also have
the first crack at them, for
the past 3 years in a row
the biggest Salmon has been
landed by a Girvan Mains FC
member.
Taking into account the
weirs, Millars Pool,
Cochranes Point,
GreyStaines, Dunrannie, the
tanks, to name but a few,
over a mile of single bank
fishing, which is open to
worm, spin and fly fish,
conditions permitting, we
have at present one hut with
another due to get built
soon, benches are located at
various beats with more to
be added in the coming
months for your convenience.
A lot of work has been
carried out the past 2
seasons to open up more
areas and make them
fishable, with still more to
be done, but as with
everywhere it is a
continuous work in progress
that I’m sure all members
old and new will continue to
assist to ensure we continue
to have the best fishing we
can, we are extremely proud
of out little club and the
water we have and we hope
you can join us in enjoying
some of the best and
underrated fishing in
Ayrshire.
Under the recent Scottish
Government consultation, The
Girvan is a class 3 river,
where anglers still have the
choice to keep a fish or two
during the year, although
for the last 2 years we have
had a 98%+ catch and release
rate, this is by our own
choice and not mandatory
yet, we take pride in this and will continue to ensure
that our kids, and their
kids can have the chance to
fish as we do.
Day tickets are some of the best value Salmon fishing out there at only £10 our aim with this is to get as many folk fishing as possible, we also introduced for 2020 free child fishing, whether a member or day ticket angler, you can now take your kids to fish for free day tickets can be bought at Ultimate angler and Dunlops Newsagents as well as online for digital permits at www.girvanmains-fishingclub.co.uk/day.html
