Customer Feedback

Knappach - Plenty of resident fish seen but none showing interest. Limited pools but what there were gave varied and very enjoyable fishing so definitely plan to return. For such a small beat, the hut facility was excellent.

Tilbouries - Nicol provided excellent guidance of where best to fish and showed me the beat in detail. His advice in fly selection and tactics was very helpful. Although the river level was low, there was a lot of fish showing and I'll be back to try again when the river levels are a little higher.

River Temperatures

Freshwater fisheries and associated expenditure such as salmon angling, accommodation and tourism are worth almost £80 million a year to the Scottish economy. However, the number of adult salmon returning to Scotland is in decline, and 2018 was the lowest recorded rod catch since records began in 1952. It is therefore important that salmon habitats are protected and improved where possible.

River temperature is a critical control on Atlantic salmon populations which are adapted to live in relatively cool water. Salmon tend to prosper when temperatures are in the teens and struggle much above 20°C. Where river temperatures exceed 23°C this can cause thermal stress and behavioural change. At 33°C salmon can no longer survive, even for a few minutes - read more.

Dunkeld - Stunning location, with easy access and short walks to the pools. Great advice from Jim re pools and lies and he even gave me a lure as was my first time salmon fishing which I caught both salmon on. Very well equipped hut and hotel is on the river if you wanted to eat there, village of Dunkeld 5 minutes away. Great day out and will definitely be back.

Lower Bolfracks - Very enjoyable weekend. Jim met us 2 days prior to our booking and showed us the parking areas and best locations to fish. Highly recommend this beat.
