July 2021 - No. 16

It's midnight, you can't see where you're placing your line, you're in search of sea trout!

Anglers have enjoyed good conditions for night time sea trout fishing on the lower river Annan. Brown trout fishing has been at its best during the last two hours of light with fish rising into darkness feeding on the spinners and caddis returning to the water - Annan Report.

Glyn Freeman guide and writer says "It's the time of the year when evening time is very special just before dark with activity from all species" Cumbria Report.

On the Nith, some nice brown trout have been caught mainly during the evening rise - Nith Report.

Conditions for evening trout fishing have been exceptional over the past few weeks on the Aberdeenshire Don, report Kemnay Angling Club. The first of this year's grilse have now entered the river - Don Report.

The biggest fish so far on the Esks has been caught on South Esk, at Finavon Castle Water. Richard Corrin whilst night fishing for sea trout caught a 20lb salmon at 2.30am - Esks Report.

Mark Allsop at Murthly Fishing.

Islamouth caught fish on most days with seven landed from the beat on Friday including a magnificent 28lber. It's great to see some of these larger fish currently running the Tay system - read more.

There was plenty of fish showing at Cargill through the course of last week, but the hot sunny conditions made fishing difficult. In spite of the tough conditions, Mr Turpin landed a cracking seventeen pounder from the Stobhall beat in bright sunshine and cloudless skies - read more.

The Tay is at a great height for fly fishing on most beats and the weather forecast looks a bit more promising in the days ahead, so, why not book a day's salmon fishing on the famous River Tay next week? It could be the place to provide you with some midsummer magic! - find Tay fishing.

Customer Feedback

Crathie - "Ghillie had excellent knowledge of the beat and was flexible to our timings. He found fishable pools even in the low water conditions. Salmon were present in the pools, but we could not tempt them! A most enjoyable trip."

Birse - "Drew Paterson is outstanding. He was an absolute pleasure to be with. Whilst I have fished on more established beats on the Dee I would not hesitate to return given the opportunity. Great knowledge of the beat and a tailored to experience to the angler."

Bespoke Fishing Nets

FishPal

The thought behind a good size net is that you can keep the fish in the water without taking it out of its natural environment. The nets are handmade in Scotland, light weight and can be put on your back very easily via the magnetic section - read more.

John Bell designed and created the nets. He is an avid angler and a guide on Loch Lomand. Lomond is not only famous for sea trout but also for the salmon which rest up on the shores awaiting spawning time. So when that big boil appears at your bob fly and all hell breaks loose, just hope that you've enough backing on your reel - read more.

Customer Feedback

Tweedhill - "Low water and no visible fish make it very tough for any ghillie. Brian tried very hard to make the two days a success and succeeded."

Pedwell - "Our party were completely new to salmon fishing and they raved about the whole day."

Lower Pavilion - "Unfortunately the river was extremely low and warm with bright sunlight. We fished very early in the morning and until late in the evening but nothing showed. It would have been amazing to catch, but as we all know, there's much more to salmon fishing. Saw an otter, kingfisher and had a duckling nursery at my feet. Scott Povey is very much on hand to offer advice if you would like it. He pitches it just right so you can make the best of your day on a very beautiful beat!"
