Time to scale down
Ron Sutherland writes: 'It is the pinnacle of all salmon fishing to turn over a lovely long cast on your favourite pool. To witness only seconds later the faint giveaway disturbance of a salmon breaking the surface and feel the line rip out of your hands, paradise indeed.
Now summer is here, temperatures are finally on the rise and it's time to scale down all tackle. No two seasons are the same especially when we are referring to angling, and after a long cold spring we can now concentrate on presenting our fly on or very close to the surface for salmon. But what's the secret to success?

The best fishing in Iceland
The Atlantic salmon season opened on 20 June and expectations are high following 3 record-breaking seasons over the past 5 years! News has already broken that Atlantic salmon have started entering some rivers.
A trout angler fishing the River Sog in mid-May hooked an 8-9lbs silver salmon measuring 78cm on a Black Ghost. The catch-of-the-day was duly returned and the prevailing conditions indicate that the season will get off to a fantastic start. Even despite very little rain in June, July & August last year, it was the fifth best in terms of salmon catches alone securing Iceland's claim as one of the world's best fresh-water fishing destinations.
With the help of Jon Sigurdsson from FishIceland you don't have to look very far for some affordable salmon and trout fishing in Iceland - read more.
