Straid Fishery has built a first class reputation for providing superb quality fly fishing in beautifully scenic surroundings. The quality of the stocked rainbow trout is very high, with some into double figures, and there is a good head of wild brown trout too. Fishing is available from the banks, which are well tended to allow easy access to the lake's margins, and there is a good stock of well maintained boats too. Anglers with restricted mobility can be transported by staff to their choice of fishing stand, and there is a wheely boat on site. The fishing cabin is clean and comfortable, with tea and coffee making facilities, and refurbished ladies and gents toilets. There is a modern room available with full kitchen for angling parties that wish it.
There are three fishing options at Straid Fishery. The 20 acre Main Lake is where most experienced fly fishers will head, as it holds the largest stocks of fish, and offers 12 boats and 1000m of bank fishing in depths ranging from 5 to 15 feet. There is a 2 acre Discover trout lake which is ideal for beginners and family groups. And there is Horsetail coarse lake with some carp to double figures and tench. Guiding, tuition and equipment hire are available for those that need it, with a little advance notice.
There is a wide choice of permits on offer, including season permits, day tickets, and guided days, with anglers having the choice to fish from the bank or for a small additional cost one of the well maintained boats.
