Overview

Careysville Fishery

The renowned Munster River Blackwater is one of the top salmon rivers in Ireland. Nestled 24 kms up from tidal water is Careysville Fishery, which consists of 1.75 kms of double bank salmon fly fishing, with pools and streams to suit all abilities.

They have a unique fishing lodge directly overlooking the river and the ability to stroll down and fish at any time of day, or simply relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery of County Cork.

Careysville offers a complete package for  fly fishing enthusiasts and their guests alike. 

Careysville Fishery on the River Blackwater – one of Ireland’s best

Careysville Fishery offers the opportunity to fish 26 named pools, with safe wading amongst the numerous streams, pools and glides. There is a great variety of fly fishing to suit both complete novice and challenge the most competent of fly casters. Access to either bank is via boat and for those pools further down the beat, they have their own 4x4 vehicle.

Private fishing in exclusive surroundings

Careysville has been in the ownership of the Duke of Devonshire’s family since the 1930s. The fishery is discretely situated within a 160 acre private estate, ¾ km from the nearest road. There are 3 very experienced full time Ghillies which includes the fishery manager on the estate. They are on hand to offer help and advice as well as tuition, if required.

Careysville House offers exclusive accommodation

Careysville House sits on an escarpment overlooking the fishery and surrounding Blackwater valley. Guests can look out of their bedroom window and watch the salmon jumping in the pools below. It was built in 1812 in the Georgian style, on the site of the old ruined Ballymacpatrick Castle.

Privacy and Peace

Access is via their own tree lined avenue, ensuring total privacy and peace for guests. The house has 4 en-suite twin rooms, 1 en-suite double room & 1 single room with its own bathroom a few steps away. Guests stay on a full board basis and are served lunch in the fishing hut every day.

Careysville House offers beautiful views of the river, it's secluded and serves delicious home cooking, Wi-Fi, satellite TV and is  only an hour's drive from Cork Airport.

 

 

 


Why you need to fish here

26 named fly pools. Fishing is on bank or wading and all pools can be covered without need of a boat. However there is a special boat for those less mobile or unable to wade. Wading generally very good....no boulders, gentle sloping river bed as one wades out,  wading stick is useful but not essential unless guest is unsteady. 1¾ kms double bank, vehicle access to river and fishing hut, vehicle access to entire south bank, fishing hut has parking, log stove, electric, WC, kitchen and lunch is served their daily. 3 full time ghillies which includes fishery manager. 2 boats available to cross the river. Fishery holds a good selection of fly rods, equipped with reels & lines if required. A good stock of salmon flies are available.
