Overview

The Abbey Beat is two and half miles of right bank fishing on the mid River Ure ,it has a good mix of slow and faster pools. The wading is good on most of the pools and some of the pools can be fished off the bank. It has excellent access for vehicles and the facilities of an outstanding tea room and caravan site.

It can be fished with easily with a switch rod or a 13ft but a 15ft is not out of place when the River Ure is carrying some water. Once the water warms its floating lines, long leaders and smaller flies being the order of the day.

Good early patterns fished deeper, include the Junction shrimp, yellow and Black tubes, and yellow ally shrimps fished on sinking tips or triple density lines.

The beat is all catch and release right through the season. River levels can be monitored above and below the beat once a day at Bainbridge and Kilgram.

The whole beat is set in a stunning parkland setting just on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales.

The Guide is Brian Towers, who is an AAPGAI instructor. AAPGAI instuctors go through rigorous assessments in the chosen fishing discipline, their aim as an instructor is to make you an effortless caster, so with the right instruction (and of course practice) you can really enjoy the sport of flyfishing.

They not only teach you casts, but all about flyfishing as well, how to read the river, flies to use, good tackle and safety and of course different methods for Salmon and Trout fishing.

When you arrive on to the beat please sign into the Attendance book by the entrance gate. Name , and indicate you are a fish pal rod.
