Caledonia Salmon Flies

FishPal

There are some lovely fish being caught, but not on the usual flies for this time of year. Put away heavy tubes and heavy sinking tips as all you will do is bounce the bottom. In these conditions, dressed doubles, ½” and ¾” tubes and Conehead patterns will get you to the desired depth.

As we move in to one of the best times for fly fishing, I recommend the following Caledonia salmon patterns starting with the Posh Raider and Copper Raider - read more.

Fishing In Ireland

FishPal's Joe Early reports from Ireland. He fished Abercorn last Monday and saw a few fish, but none were interested in his fly.

The Moy have had a good run of fish in the 10-12lb bracket with 9 reported from East Mayo Angling Club between 6-10lb. Sea trout on Lough Currane are doing well with specimen fish of approx 5 lb being caught. 26/4/17 was Father and Daughters Day on Lough Currane. Aemilia Timmermans, while fishing with her father Mr. William Timmermans, caught two fine salmon on the troll, both were in the 7 lbs bracket.
