Newsletter - December 2013     Yesterday's Catches, Today's River Levels, Tomorrow's Availability

Dear Angler

With Christmas only a week away we have a packed newsletter with season reviews, gift ideas and a competition to win tickets to Kiss the Water, a poetic portrait of the world's most celebrated maker of salmon fishing flies, Megan Boyd .

Shamus Jennings has been confirmed the winner of Scotland's most prestigious angling award, the Savills Malloch Trophy for 2013. His 50lb Boleside salmon is the biggest on Tweed and possibly the largest in Scotland since Lady Ward's Tay salmon in 1928.

Last month a cheque for £5207.50 was presented to Salmon and Trout Association CEO Paul Knight from donations made when you book your fishing on FishPal.com. This year a total of £6117 has been raised for the S&TA.

With a new salmon season on the horizon, remember we are only a telephone call or email away to help you book your fishing trip in 2014.

Merry Christmas.

First Salmon For Tom

Tom Perry-Warnes first introduction to fishing was on the Cree in July. Sadly the fish were not in a taking mood, the result of low water and weather akin to the Mediterranean.

So dad Johnny decided on a three day fishing trip at the end of the season to the Nith - read more about their trip.

Tweed Salmon

This month sees a brand new angling programme from Rae Borras for satellite TV viewers on Discovery SHED.

Game Fisher's Diary visits Scotland's River Tweed in Autumn with superb salmon fishing on the menu. Friday December 20th at 10.30pm - more information.

The season was in many ways a remarkable season, certainly in the context of recent times. It was a season of highs and lows - read more

River Spey Review

A year of high's and low's for anglers fishing the River Spey this year.

The lower river up to Craigellachie started the season in fine fettle, with fish reported and anglers who ventured out enjoying some excellent sport during the mild weather. Rods below Craigellachie fared better steadily picking away at fish. Most beats during Feburary and March were lightly fished with plenty of affordable rods available for visiting anglers - read more.

Thank you to all the ghillies, river reporters, customers, tackle shops who have shared news and information during the year, without your help the weekly and yearly report would not have been possible.
