Overview

The Tiptoe beat is one mile long, set in an attractive managed woodland valley and is fished from the right bank. It is approximately 2 miles upstream from the junction with the River Tweed. The fishing is predominantly for salmon and sea trout but grayling are a winter option.

On arrival the angler will be welcomed and provided with a descriptive map of the pools, if not already printed from the Tweed website. There is a freezer, catch book and lavatory available at the farm.

Access to the beat is from Tiptoe Farm, where cars can be parked, followed by a short 3-4 mins walk down a steepish bank which leads to the River Till. This beat is for the able-bodied, for day or night fishing.

It is advised, to bring a rucksack or holdall bag to bring refreshments, food, clothing etc, down to the river.

Once at the bottom of the track there is a shelter hut, where you can base yourself for the time you are wanting to fish during the day or night.

The pools lie numbered up and down from the hut and there is a neatly cut path allowing access to all the pools.

The beat fishes best for salmon when the water is above 12". This gives the pools good flow and the rocks covered in the runs that can act as resting spots.

The seatrout fishing is very good from early summer into early Autumn. If bright and sunny in the evening I would advise a small 6-7ft rod to be able to cast under the trees.

Otherwise a 7/8 weight rod will cover most eventualities for the beat throughout the year.

The beat has a good stock of Grayling and will be good sport in the winter and spring months when the salmon and seatrout are on the quiet side.

Nymph patterns are the best, and make sure you have a good sink tip for deeper pools.

Accommodation can be provided in the self-catering Orchard Cottage (Northumbria Tourist Board Registered 4 Stars.) Please see the Where to Stay link on the FishTweed site.

Why you need to fish here

The Tiptoe beat is set in an attractive wooded valley and is fished from the right bank. The beat is subject to natural vegetation growth and as a result will be at its peak in June.
