Horsbrugh

Location

Upper Tweed at Cardrona

Summary

Single bank fishery measuring 2.5 miles of River Tweed. 11 named pools, maps and fishing hut and easy access to river bank from car park.

Description

The Horsbrugh beat is on the north bank of the former association water at Cardrona. The Association ceased in 2007 when the South bank was sold to a private syndicate and the Macdonald Cardrona Hotel, Golf & Spa took over the north bank.

The beat has always been a consistently productive stretch of the upper Tweed located in a very picturesque area of countryside.
Given the right conditions, anglers have as good a chance as anywhere of connecting with a fish.

The majority of the pools are easily fished with easy access and parking nearby. A couple of pools are a little more challenging and not so suitable for the less able or inexperienced angler.

A lot of work has taken place to improve access and to provide benches and a fishing hutis available with heating and wc. Previously there was no bank side maintenance carried out and access was limited but this has vastly improved.

Double handed rods of 12 to 14 feet are adequate but in early autumn and lower water even a single handed rod is fine.

here is no full time ghillie but expert advice on tackle, techniques and conditions is readily available.

We expressly ask that courtesy is given to fishers on the opposite bank when both are fished.
