Disabled and elderly access
Special Tweed boats
Since 2004, The Tweed Foundation, Tweed proprietors, the Wheelyboat Trust and many others have supported the development of the first ever bespoke UK fishing boat for the disabled and elderly for use on large salmon rivers. Now (and for the first time) anyone in a wheelchair or who is unsteady on their feet can fish for salmon on most beats of the main river from Galashiels down to Norham.
'Tweedability' provides access to salmon fishing for disabled anglers on the River Tweed
You can find out more about how these boats operate, where they can go and how to book them by going to the
page on the new Wheelyboat booking site.
Please remember that if you have not used the Wheelyboat on your planned beat before, you should ring the Wheelyboat operator first to ensure that he can advise you on what is sensible for you and your particular disability (see contact details in next column).
