There are only 17 days left to wait before the long awaited 2017 salmon season starts on the River Tay. Fishing on opening day January 16th and during early spring has an adventurous feel about it with the reward of a early season springer making the effort worthwhile.

During the last 12 months we have received a staggering number of visitors to the FishTay site with views from nearly every country in the world.

Thank you for making the Tay the recognised world class fishing destination it truly deserves.

To keep up with the demand from anglers wanting to fish the Tay in 2017 more beats have added availability earlier than normal - find fishing.

The offices are open as normal during the festive break to help you organise your fishing holiday.

Increased Spring Run

Ian Griffin fishing Bolfracks, Your Photos Fish Tay

Spring catches from January to May continue to see a 7% increase in the five year spring average and for the first time in many a year performed better than autumn fishing.

Those anglers who braved the conditions in early spring were rewarded with springers, January 18, February 160 and March 321. Late spring remained strong for the middle river with 35% of the total catch caught on these beats.

With prices starting from £20 for a days ghillied fishing, the Tay offers some of the best value early fishing available in Scotland - find fishing.

2017 River Opening

The 2017 opening of the river Tay with the Tay District Salmon Fisheries Board and The Perthshire Chamber of Commerce will be held at The Meikleour Fishings Boathouse, by Kinclaven Bridge PH1 4QW, on Monday 16th of January starting at 9am.

FishPal Malloch Trophy

The 2016 winner of the FishPal Malloch Trophy – for one of the largest salmon caught by an angler on a fly and safely returned during the year in Scottish waters – has been announced.

The successful angler is John MacIsaac, a gillie from the River Lochy in Lochaber, who caught the fish of a lifetime in the River Spean - read more.

2016 Junior Winners

This years winners of the prestigious Junior FishPal Malloch Competition have been announced.

The five junior winners have caught and released a staggering 16 salmon between them during their fishing trips this year. The winners will spend a day on FishPonds beat, River Tay with Iain Kirk and world spey casting champion Scott Mackenzie on Monday 7th August 2017 - read more.

To support our customers out of FishPal office hours, we are trialling a new Live Chat on the home page of FishTay exclusively for the River Tay. FishPal are working in partnership with respected Tay Guide Jock Monteith.

Conservation Schools Network

Pupils from schools as far away as the USA, Finland, France, German and Greenland visited the River Tay in November for the first study visit of the Atlantic Salmon Conservation Schools Network
