Description

The Upper Islamouth and Meikleour House Beat commences at the at the junction of the Tay & Isla rivers (Islamouth proper) and extends for approximately 1.15 miles upstream. It is set in the midst of the splendid grounds of Meikleour House one of the most impressive country houses in Perthshire. Superb specimen trees surround the river banks, including the world's tallest beech hedge, and an outstanding woodland garden.

The beat is fished by five rods from Thursday to Saturday with two ghillies and two boats.

For the first three days of the week, Monday to Wednesday, only the Meikleour House part of the beat is fished with one ghillie and one boat (four rods).

The River Isla is the most prolific tributary of the Tay and frequently salmon accumulate at its mouth in great numbers making the Upper Islamouth one of the best casts on the whole Tay. As the Isla receives good runs of fish all through the season, these beats are worth fishing throughout the year.

Fly fishing is the only method allowed on Upper Islamouth unless the water is very high but spinning is allowed at all times on the House Beat.
