Description

The Meikleour House Beat commences at the Kinclaven Road Bridge and extends for approximately 1.15 miles upstream. It is set in the midst of the splendid grounds of Meikleour House one of the most impressive country houses in Perthshire. Superb specimen trees surround the river banks, including the world's tallest beech hedge, and an outstanding woodland garden. For the first three days of the week, Monday to Wednesday, the beat is fished with one ghillie and one boat (four rods) but from Thursday to Saturday Upper Islamouth is also included with an extra ghillie and boat (five rods). Upper Islamouth is the short stretch of river from the Kinclaven Bridge to the mouth of the River Isla.

The River Isla is the most prolific tributary of the Tay and frequently salmon accumulate at its mouth in great numbers making the Upper Islamouth one of the best casts on the whole Tay. As the Isla receives good runs of fish all through the season, these beats are worth fishing throughout the year.

Fly fishing is the only method allowed on Upper Islamouth unless the water is very high but spinning is allowed at all times on the House Beat.
