Description
The Islabank beat is neatly positioned on the middle of the prolific River Isla with the famous Couper Grange beat above and the Isla Mouth beat below us. Expectations for
the coming grilse runs are high and fishing is offered at a very reasonable cost.
The Islabank Fishings comprise 2.5 miles of single bank fishing, (6 linear miles) with over 22 pools, pots and runs. The water is varied and offers some stretches that are
suited to the fly and deeper runs and holding pools where salmon hold up in all water heights can be more suited for spinning and bait fishing even when the water is low,
there is a very good chance of taking a fish.
Major work has taken place on the river by past lease holders enhancing considerably the quality of the fishing. They apparently took Professional advice from the Tay
Fisheries and a considerable investment has resulted in the creation of additional lies and croyes within this now extensive beat. The formation of significant subsurface
features have been designed for fish to hold up throughout the season and at all heights of water.
Extensive bank clearance and enhanced access to all parts of the river will continue to make access as easy as possible for all who come to fish the beat.
Toilet facilities and good off road car parking complete the amenities.
Access to the fishing is extremely good as the road runs close by throughout the length of the beat and a short walk gives access to all pools. The boat to fish deeper and
less accessible pools completes the picture.
Fish heading for the River Isla and its tributary the Ericht do so throughout the season, in recent years, based on the fish counter on the river Ericht , this river can
boast an annual run of 8,000 to 13,000 fish!
The first fish tend to arrive in February or March, with good runs in April and May, depending on the water level so excellent sport can be had on Islabank at any time with
some of the best Spring Catches in the Tay system made on the Isla. Taking only hours to reach Islabank these bright bars of silver arrive in beautiful condition straight
from the sea. In lower water conditions, the salmon hold up in the deeper pools where the 2.5 miles of the Islabank can hold a very impressive stock of fish.
In the summer months especially exciting sport is provided by the grilse with considerable numbers recorded. If bigger fish are sought then the months of September and
October can provide both numbers and size. In late summer and autumn the main later run of fish which will spawn in the Isla itself arrive in large numbers. These are
bigger than the Ericht fish with many from 15lb to 20lb+.
Therefore, Islabank offers an excellent chance of sport with plenty fresh run fish at any time of the year. The deep holding pools and enticing glides means there will
always be the chance of a fish on Islabank.
To give you the best possible chance of a tight line Islabank has secured the services of a ghillie who will ensure that fishing is enjoyable, safe and hopefully
productive.
The thrill and excitement of hooking, playing and landing a wild salmon is an experience second to none. Islabank looks forward to giving you the opportunity.
