The Tay lies at the heart of the main road network connecting central and northern Scotland so is easy to get to. The M90 from Edinburgh, the A9 (dual carriageway) from Glasgow, the A90 (dual carriageway) from Dundee and the A9 trunk road to Inverness all intersect at Perth which is close to most of the most popular fishing beats on the Tay. The main Tay beats can be reached in one hour from Edinburgh and one-and-a-half hours from Glasgow and two-and-a-half hours from Carlisle.

By air

Edinburgh Airport is within 45 minutes and Glasgow Airport is within 90 minutes drive from Perth. These offer a wide range of flights within the UK and also direct flights to many destinations in Europe and the USA. Edinburgh airport has over 25 scheduled daily flights to London and airline carriers such as Easyjet and Go offer excellent discount fare options, making air travel to the Tay very cost effective and accessible.

The Tay is close to Scotland's major transport networks and is very accessible

By train

Travelling to the Tay by train is convenient and easy. Perth is the intersection point of Scotrail trains travelling between Edinburgh and Inverness, Glasgow and Inverness and Glasgow and Dundee/Aberdeen. There are therefore almost hourly services to and from Glasgow and slightly fewer to the other destinations. Regular trains plying between Perth and Inverness stop at Dunkeld, Pitlochry and sometimes Blair Atholl, main centres for anglers fishing the Tay and Tummel. There is also a direct daily service to London Kings Cross by Great North Eastern Railways (GNER) and an overnight sleeper service by Caledonian Sleepers (Scotrail) to London Euston.
