Overview

The Lower Farleyer Beat is the lower half of what used to be called Farleyer Fishings, it is the sister beat to Upper Farleyer. It comprises single (left) bank fishing commencing Dalrawer farm and extending 1.7 miles downstream, opposite the Bolfracks Beat. There is also 600 yards on the South bank at the Haugh of Bolfracks, opposite the fishing hut.

A fair proportion of the beat is streamy water, with a number of good holding pools. In low to medium height this beat has excellent fly water. The river can be comfortably fished from either the bank or wading. However especially in high water the spinning rod might be needed to get the best out of all the water.

The beat benefits from several deep holding pools at the Haugh of Bolfracks, especially when the river Lyon is low. Fish may accumulate in the beat before running upstream.

Fish can be caught from opening day, but chances increase as spring progresses with the best chances of sparkling fresh fish often been made in the late spring

In the summer grilse can provide exciting sport, and then with the Autumn spates usually see an influx of more fish on their final run to the river Dochart and Lyon from the lower Tay.

The South Bank beat is very accessible with good parking close to the beat. The North Bank is accessible with parking then a degree of walking is required to make the most of the beat. Approximately fifteen minutes in either direction.

At the moment there is a basic fishing hut opposite the Haugh of Bolfracks set in splendid surroundings with Ben Lawers and the hill of Glenlyon as a backdrop.

The Ailean Chraggan Hotel is conveniently situated close to the beat and is ideally placed to provide accommodation, food and drink.
