River Nith Burgh Water Report December 2018

December is the time for most anglers to put their rods away, oil their reels, check flies, minnows, spinners and hooks, and throw away gut, repair waders.

Grayling fishers will be getting excited, with salmon fishers finished, they will have the river to themselves with some great sport to be had. The Nith is famous for its' big grayling. If we can get some cold weather, it is worth a go. Most beats on the Nith will have daily or weekly tickets available. Remember to check individual beat rules – line cast strengths, hook size and, most important, wading – you don't want to disturb salmon reds.

The 2018 season was a mixed report for the Burgh. Lincluden pools did well with a few catches. Spring catches were mainly with the fly. Summer seatrout again were again disappointing. Grilse and salmon were good with most angers doing well, the worm doing best. Other beats had a few fish. The Wee Green did poorly, low water did not help. The back end was disappointing. The 2018 season will be remembered for the summer run. Again I will repeat, few rods were out.

Merry Christmas and a good New Year to you all.

Looking forward to the 2019 season and seeing more rods out on the river.

Any fishy stories or grayling catches, give me a ring.
