Friars Carse Report - was up on the beat last week just as the river was starting to fall back after the small lift so expectations were high. A few anglers were out and fish were seen down in Policemans,
Island, Marsdens, House Pool & clearly running fish at the Riding Stone. A couple of anglers had brief connections with some nice fish 2 on the fly and another on the worm all hooked & sadly lost in
Marsdens & the Island, one of them from its aerobatic skills could well have been a decent sea trout.
As the river dropped back & cleared brown trout came on the feed & some nice ones came to the fly.
Like Allan says in his report we need some rain & when it comes make sure to get out and have a cast.
Next fishing & fly tying course at the Hotel is 10th,11th & 12th September contact the Hotel or myself for more information (if you can't get out to fish why not try tying some flies)

July report from the Burgh water
I've never seen the Nith so low – its down to its bare bones. The tidal water is very dirty with big tides and it's just about unfishable from the Castledykes Pool down stream. Also the mud is dangerous. I have seen anglers getting stuck and being pulled out by firemen with ropes and ladders. Last year a dog became stuck in the mud and the owner went in to save it. Both became stuck and firemen were called out to save them. Back to the fishing. A few of the bigger pools held fish. Richard Little had a 9 lb fish at Shortridges with a spinner. He went out at evening time when the sun was down and was rewarded. There are hardly any fishers out. We need rain badly, but I don't know when the weather will improve.
Catch any fish or any fishy stories, give me a ring. Allan Blyth 01387 721211
