Description
The Drumlanrig Castle fishings is within the Queensberry Estate (one of the Buccleuch Estates) in the grounds of Drumlanrig Castle near Thornhill, Dumfries & Galloway. The
private beats of the Drumlanrig Castle fishings offer approximately 7 miles of exclusive Sea Trout and Salmon fishing across four defined beats (Lower, Middle, Upper and
Nith Linns). The river broadens from a rocky gorge into a mainly graveled riverbed with suitable pools and reaches offering good accessible fishing for both Salmon and Sea
Trout. The four beats vary in length but are balanced for quality. There are 28 named pools across the four beats.
The Nith Linns run for 2 miles immediately above the Upper Beat and is mainly fished from the true left (east bank). Its many pools and streams provide good lies for Salmon
and Sea Trout as well as Brown Trout. Although fly fishing is usually preferable, spinning and worming are also permitted at any height of water. The Nith Linns are rocky
in nature with steep banks in places, access to the pools being by means of steps leading from parking areas on the A76. The beat can be challenging underfoot and is not
recommended for the infirm or inexperienced but offers an exciting stretch of river with excellent pools for the enthusiastic fisherman and is popular with the locals. A
fishing hut is available, the key for which can be obtained from the Estate Office. As well as day lets, a season ticket can also be purchased for this beat.
