Overview

Dalswinton Estate, situated 7 miles north of Dumfries, has 2.5 miles of single bank fishing. It is a particularly attractive stretch of the river and in recent years has benefitted from good sea trout returns in the Spring and late Summer. Later on in the Autumn, the river is notorious for its runs of the famous grey-backs and salmon are landed regularly.

The beat commences at the Pump House just below the road bridge at Auldgirth and extends downstream to the Railway Viaduct at Portack. There is a small stretch of a few hunderd yards between the top and bottom beats which is not fished.

The fishing can be classed as lying in a low to middle section of the river, which enhances the chance for game fishing for salmon and sea trout throughout the season.

In general Dalswinton water offers great variation presenting the best opportunity to cover fish in low, as well as high, water conditions. To make the most of the fishing, anglers should be prepared to adapt tactics.

Dalswinton Fishing also offers grayling fishing from 1st November through to 24th February.

Dalswinton Fishing season on the River Nith runs from 25th February to 31st October.

Season tickets are available direct from the Estate Office.

In addition Dalswinton Estate can offer accommodation in Dalswinton Mews Flat which is a conversion of the hay loft in the 18th century stable yard. The flat was refurbished to a high standard in 2004 and now provides accommodation for up to 8 people in 4 twin en-suite rooms. Please contact the Estate for prices and availability.
