Overview

Exclusive salmon and sea trout fishing, comprising of two beats on the renowned Dochfour fishings. Located on the upper reaches of the River Ness, four miles west of Inverness.

There is NO beat rotation between the beats. You book the beat that you fish.

The Upper beat stretches from the weir at Loch Dochfour for approximately 1 mile, and includes 7 named pools. Most pools can be fished from the banks, with boat available for some. Provides excellent spring fishing and in summer is best suited to low water conditions, though certain pools still fish well in high water.

The lower beat comprises a 1.2 mile stretch, and includes the former lower Dochfour and Laggan beats. It comprises 10 named pools, which can be fished from the bank, boat or from the central island. The beat fishes best in medium-high water conditions.

The beats generally hold fish for most of the season but this depends on the time of year and conditions.

Loch Ness acts as a filter and as a result the river Ness never colours in a flood and it’s rare that you can’t fish because the water is too high. In a dry summer Dochfour can still fish in low water which helps slow fish down when they’re running upstream.

From June onwards 14 or 15ft rods are normally used, floating lines and sinking tips is a common set up.

Cascades, Ally shrimps and Silver Stoats catch fish with Sunrays and Hitch flies becoming more popular in very low water.

Wading is easy and chest waders are required even in low water. Boats are used to fish some of the wider pools.

The first fish are normally caught in March, and the spring fishing has been excellent in recent years with May generally the best month. August and September are traditionally the best summer months, though October now becoming a good month too with fresh fish.
