Summary

Trout fishing on one loch and three reservoirs.

Maximum rods: There is currently no limit on the number of rods allowed to fish the reservoirs, which are normally lightly fished.

Stranrear and District Angling Association is introducing online booking for the 2007 season, with an initial 5 Adult Visitor Day Tickets available each day throughout the season at £12 per rod per day.

2007 catches include 4 rainbows over 9lb & a 10lb 4oz brownie from Soulseat Loch.

Bookings should be made online. Paper tickets will continue to be available through the usual outlets. OAP, Ladies and Junior tickets are also for sale from these outlets.

Description

Stranraer and District Angling Association are keen for visitors to the area to enjoy their sport, and with that in mind they can offer day and weekly tickets for the following:

Soulseat Loch (72 acres), only 2 miles from Stranraer, provides bait, fly and spinning for rainbow and brown trout. This loch produces large over-wintered fish up to 4lb on both bait and fly and browns up to 3lb on fly. Anglers have already seen some very large catches in 2007: four 9lb rainbow trout and a 10lb 4oz brown trout. Boats are available and two disabled angler platforms.

Dindinnie Reservoir, only 1.5 miles from Stranraer, offers fly fishing only for hard-fighting rainbow trout and brown trout. Stocked rainbow weigh up to 8lb.

Knockquassen Reservoir - fly fishing only. A moorland loch which is very secluded. Stocked with good-sized, hard-fighting brown trout.

Penwhirn Reservoir - fly fishing only. This is the largest reservoir managed by the club and is set in moorland, only a short walk from the parking area. All the fish are very wild!

Anglers can fish all day on a catch and release basis, HOWEVER, if you dispatch two fish you must leave the water but you can move to another of the above venues on the same ticket.

Please note there are plentiful supplies of fish on these waters due to large stockings every season.

Juniors (under 17): à6 day à30 per week
