Overview

Mochrum Park is set amongst stunning pastoral countryside, with leafy mature trees visible throughout the beat. The beat is considered to be amongst the very best on the river and provides a significant contribution to the total number of the salmon and grilse caught annually on the Bladnoch.

There are twelve named pools in this section, some of the best pools are Ashtree, Roger's, The Forty Footer, Market Pool and Nut Bank. These pools provide good, deep holding areas for fish and whilst the beat benefits from fish that have just run on a spate, it is also productive in the days following a rise. The banks are well kept and are easily accessible to excellent open fly fishing for which wading is unnecessary.

The beat has a good mixture of water, with streamy fly water and deeper pools. It provides good sport throughout the year, with spring salmon regularly caught in the first few weeks of the season. Grilse can be caught from June onwards and fish continue to build up towards the autumn when the main catches are made.

Preferred flies include Munroe Killers, Stoats Tails, General Practitioners, Ally's Shrimp and Green Highlanders.

The proprietor, Jonathan Haley, is always keen to give friendly advice and assistance and will show you the water before you begin fishing. The limited number of rods available on the Mochrum Park beat ensures that personal attention is a priority. Tuition can also be arranged.

Details of cottage pricings will be posted on the Prospects page as fishing with Mochrum park becomes available. Anglers also have access to High/Low Barness (Bladnoch), Kirwaugh (Bladnoch), Machermore (Cree) & beats on the Tarf (Bladnoch) & Palnure Burn (Cree).
