Description
This is a popular and productive coarse fish loch which is well known locally for offering excellent angling opportunities. The water is well stocked with a range of fish
species which thrive in this 27 acre loch. The loch is surrounded by beautiful countryside including woodland on one side. The water is relatively sheltered making it
suitable for fishing even during windy weather.
Roach, rudd, perch, pike, bream, carp and tench are all found in good numbers and in good sizes in this picturesque water. The pike are particularly impressive with fish
up to 30lb recorded. Large double figure pike have been stocked into the water in the past.
In recent years this water has become particularly respected as a high quality bream fishery. Many 4-5lb bream are caught with fish up to 11lb recorded! Anglers report
large daily bream bags up to 90lb. Most caught on sweetcorn in ground baited swims. Perch and roach both reach up to 3lbs in this water with many 1-2lbs caught. Tench are
not particularly big with 2lb tench being about the largest recorded. Rudd only became established in the water from 2003 and mostly reach about ½lb although in the
future this should increase. Carp are rarely fished for and require a bit of pre-planning for a productive day. Carp up to 6lb have been reported in recent years.
To protect the high quality of this fishery all coarse fish must be returned alive.
Fishing access is very easy with vehicle parking on the waters edge round nearly half of the loch. Picnic areas are also present. There are numerous platformed pegs giving
easy casting opportunities. Overnight fishing shelters are permitted.
As across Scotland, the use of live fish as bait (i.e. live baiting) is strictly illegal.
All angling must be undertaken from the bank as boating and canoeing is not allowed anywhere on this water.
Accommodation is available very close at the Three Lochs Holiday Park. The park also has a well stocked shop which offers a wide range of fishing tackle and light
refreshments.
This loch is part of the Holker Estate fishings which offer an exciting range of coarse, trout and salmon fishing all within a short distance of the Three Lochs Holiday
Park (also see Loch Ronald, Black Loch and Airyligg Fishings (on the Tarff) pages). To see a location map
