Overview

The Linloskin beat on the River Cree is one of the most productive stretches of water in the system. The beat provides easy access with secure private parking at the main Linloskin Pool including a covered fishing shelter with table and seating, firepit and BBQ to provide cover from inclement weather.

There is a fully plumbed WC available to anglers.

Overlooking the Linloskin Pool there is a fully furnished fishing cabin to rent by separate agreement. The cabin is available for weekly lets only and sleeps a maximum of two anglers.

The beat is approximately one and a half miles long and begins at the top of the renowned Linloskin Pool and includes both banks with a jetty on one bank and casting platform on the other which enables the angler to cover the water/main lies in the neck of the pool with ease and suits both fly and spinning at various heights of river. Downstream from Linloskin it is single bank fishing which has arguably the best fly water on the Cree. This includes: Wee Knockstocks, Big Knockstocks, Black Rocks/Gleds Rest, Petigan, Hawks and Steps Pool. General's Pool, Ghyll Pool and Kirk Pool are all good spinning pools and run down into the top of the Suspension Bridge Pool where the beat ends in Newton Stewart. The lower section of the beat from Gleds Nest downstream is in a secluded wooded valley which is spectacular and rich in woodland wildlife, such as deer and red squirrels.

As the Cree is mainly a spate river and fishing is somewhat dependent upon water levels, Linloskin Pool is an area where fish collect as levels drop and often continues to catch fish when other beats are unsuccessful. Spring salmon are present from mid-March onwards, summer salmon can be caught from May/June. The grilse run normally starts around mid-June and can be extremely productive and continues until near the end of the season with larger salmon appearing in September/October. Recent catches have included some very good fish including a 23lb salmon in 2003 (largest recorded salmon on Linloskin beat is 29lb). Sea trout are also present from June and have shown an increase in numbers and size in recent years - 6lb in 2003 (largest sea trout recorded on Linloskin Beat - 11.5lb).

Best return for the Beat during the last 15 years was 46 salmon caught in one week by father and son (ie 2 rods for 6 days). Accommodation can be arranged through the beat owner, who can recommend some excellent B&Bs/hotels and self-catering accommodation nearby.

All legal methods are permitted, however, shrimp and prawn are entirely prohibited on the River Cree. Details regarding preferred method at certain water levels can be provided by the proprietor.

If you require information regarding catch returns please contact the proprietor.
