Description

Clugston Loch is a natural 23-acre loch situated 3 miles south east of Kirkcowan. It is fed by the Craigdow burn which flows through moorland into the south end of the loch. The outlet flows into the Craigdow burn and then into the River Bladnoch, 200 yards downstream of Spittal bridge.

The loch was first stocked with trout (brown and rainbow) in 1995 after the removal of most of the pike population. The fishery has been improved over the years and now has 4 boats, a jetty and a fishing hut with a picnic table.

Fishing with an intermediate line using small black flies such as buzzers and bibios, is usually the most successful. If the wind is light and conditions right, dry fly fishing can be productive.

The bag limit is 2 fish per rod; all other fish must be returned carefully to the water with the exception of all pike which must be removed.

The catch and cormorant sightings must be recorded in the log-ins inside the hut. Please read the loch rules displayed inside the hut.
