ALTNAHARA - 14 named pools and is fished from the right bank only. Parking at the Glenferness Stables and if requested 4wd access to the top pool. The nearest fishing to the West Stables (4 bedroom accomodation let to fishermen) is on the Black Pool which is about 200m away down a steep bank, at the longest a 5 minute walk. So you can fall out of bed and into the river! The same applies to fishermen staying in the Estate's Wooden House (4 bedrooms but more spacious than the Stables) but they do have to walk an extra 100m. The beat varies from narrow gorge fishing to wide open pools so can be fished in all heights of water.
MINI DALTRA plus the Kennel and Garden pools. In total 8 named pools fished from the right bank only with access on foot from the West Stables and the Wooden House taking roughly 10-15 minutes to the nearest pools. There is also 4wd access by a track to the lower part of the beat. There are many big wide open pools which fish beautifully in medium to high water. Low water means lots of walking between the best spots.
DALTRA Beat. This has 7 named pools fished from the right bank only. Although it is a short beat it has 5 deep pools giving excellent fishing in all water heights. Access is by car to the White Stream or 4wd to Daltra pool. It is roughly 10 minutes drive from the accomodation.
LEVRATTICH has 8 named pools and can be fished from both banks. The best access is by car to Ardclach church which is about 15 minutes from the accomodation and is at the bottom end of the beat. It has a lovely mixture of small runs and big pools so the beat can be fished in any water height.
CHURCH beat has 8 named pools and can be fished from both banks. Access is either from Ardclach church at the top of the beat or from Logie Bridge (on the Nairn/Grantown road) which is at the bottom end of the beat. Both can be reached by car in 10-15 minutes from the accomodation. The top end of the beat is narrow and rocky with the lower end being much wider. In between there is a mix of small runs and pools that are most effective in medium to high water.
Fishers must contact the estate prior to fishing to confirm their beat / beat rotation
Accomodation is available close to Glenferness House.
Wooden house - sleeps 8 in 4 bedrooms, dining table seats 12, spacious wooden chalet built in 1892 with bags of charm.
West Stables - sleeps 6-7 in 4 bedrooms, dining room seats 8. Very comfortable.
East Stable Cottage- Sleeps 5, 3 bedrooms, 1 bathroom.
The Studio - sleeps 2 in one bed/sitting room with ensuite shower room.
Balintore Cottage - is a very cosy, secluded cottage in the woods. It was completely renovated in 2006 to a high standard. Comprises 1 double bedroom, second bedroom is a loft room with 2 futon beds, sitting room with wood-burning stove, kitchen/dining room.
Why you need to fish here
The Findhorn at Glenferness is very beautiful. The river is often narrow and rocky including many small runs and deep pools but there is endless variety including many big pools which fish well in a big river.
