The far north of Scotland is about as remote a place as you can find in the United Kingdom, although it is served with a good road system. However, please remember to allow considerable time in getting from A to B as most roads follow the topography of the land rather than cutting through it.
If travelling by air the area is served by both Inverness airport and Wick airport. Inverness has regular flights to London and both provide regular flights to many other cities. Inverness also has flights to the Northern and Western Isles, and also to Dublin.
If travelling by train, Inverness has direct trains from Edinburgh, London and many other cities. There is also a sleeper service from London. Trains travel on from Inverness to all stations to Wick, Scrabster and also west to Ullapool.
