Last week

(Last updated: Wednesday 20th September)

August was a good month for some but very disappointing for others.

The Stinchar continued to enjoy success with two of the main beats Knockdolian and Dalreoch accounting for 70 fish between them. Other bests also enjoyed some good sport up and down the river. The quality and size of the Stinchar fish this year has been excellent with multi sea winter double figure fish making up the bulk of the catch. The Stinchar has also reported some fresh fish entering the river over the last week or so.

Reports from the rest of Ayrshire have been thin on the ground and as far as i can tell this is because the fish seem to be elusive. There have been reports of catches on the Ayr, Doon, Girvan, Irvine and Garnock. Smithston on the Doon is now on 30 for the season, Bargany have had a few and most of the club beats have reported a few fish. Some rivers got off to a decent start but things seemed to have slowed down a bit throughout August. Hopefully this will change and fresh runs of fish will appear. We live in hope of a decent back end run but time will tell.

September can be one of the most productive months in Ayrshire, given water it is well worth a visit with some very affordable fishing available across the county. Check out our beat pages for further information. this page

UPDATE - With water last week there appears to be a few fresh fish about, fresh grilse were seen in most of the Ayrshire rivers at the weekend, hopefully fish continue to arrive for the rest of the season.

Season review

April and May were doomed due to extremely dry weather. June and July have provided encouraging catches across most of the county. August was good on the Stinchar but proved frustrating for the rest of the Ayrshire Rivers. Some fresh fish have arrived over the last week or so in most of the Ayrshire rivers, hopefully this continues for the rest of the season
