The River Annan is very easily reached by the UK's main trunk roads. The M74 runs through Annandale and most of the beats are less than ten minutes by car from it. People coming from the south should get onto the A74 at Carlisle and head north. Likewise anglers coming from the north should join the M74 and head south.
If you are fishing beats right at the bottom of the river take the A75 towards Annan. For beats on the lower to middle river get off the motorway at Ecclefechan. If you are booked onto beats on the middle of the river exit the motorway at Lockerbie. For those anglers who are heading towards the upper reaches leave the motorway at either at Johnston Bridge or Moffat.
If travelling by air the nearest airports are Prestwick, Glasgow, Edinburgh or Newcastle. All are between 1 and 1.5hrs away from the river by car.
The West Coast main railway line runs stops at Lockerbie and trains can be caught at all of the above airports. However, if travelling by train from an airport it is usually easier and considerably quicker to do so from either Glasgow or Edinburgh.
Once at Lockerbie you can use the public bus service to access many beats during the daytime but this is impracticable when fishing at night so it may be better to hire a car.
