FishIceland have chosen a combination trip that showcases two classic Icelandic trout fishing rivers: the river Laxa in Adaldalur and the Brunna river. You will fish crystal clear flowing water for aggressive wild brown trout and strong fighting Arctic char.

The transfer between the river lodges is easy by car and gives a great chance to see the beautiful countryside, waterfalls and mountains. Both rivers enjoy very comfortable and well appointed lodges.

The Laxa in Adaldalur (Lower) is approximately a 45 minute drive east from Akureyri airport. Although having a reputation as being the BIG fish river of Iceland for salmon it is also well known as one of the best brown trout rivers in the world due to the alkaline levels and prolific weed growth. The Lower Adaldalur beats are teeming with big aggressive wild brown trout.

It is possible to fish up or downstream using streamers and weighed nymphs but the dry fly gives best results when fishing upstream with tiny size 16 midge imitations. The light kiss on the surface as the fly is sucked down can suddenly have you attached to 5 lb wild fish with enormous fighting power and strong will. The average size of trout is 2-3lbs with some excellent specimens in the 5-7lb region. Several brown trout of up to 10lbs have been caught in recent years.
