Huseyjarkvisl is located just east of the hamlet Varmahlid in the Skagafjord District.

Huseyjarkvisl river provides double bank fishing along its whole 17km length. Thre are 32 named trout pools and 17 named salmon pools on the river.

With a maximum of three rods permitted to fish the trout section and only two rods permitted to fish the salmon section there is ample water for everyone.

From 25th June until 25th September, the trout fishing is sold along with the salmon fishing resulting in a maximum of three rods on the river at any one time.

The trout and char area is 12km long, beginning at Varmahlid. It has an average catch for the three rods of between 400 and 500 are brown trout and sea trout.

The salmon area is 5km long and runs from the end of the trout area to the sea. The two salmon rods produce an average catch of between 150 and 200 salmon per season.

Huseyjarkvisl operates a voluntary catch and release policy.

Single handed 8 weight rods combined with a floating line are most commonly used on the river, however it is always worth ensuring you have included sink tips. Favourite flies on the Huseyjarkvisl are Blue Charm, Colburn Special, Cascade, White Wing, Frances, Munro Killer, Willie Gunn, Green Butt, Sunray Shadow, Snaelda, Friggi along with Frances Tubes and Hitch tubes.

Huseyjarkvisl is well known for its big salmon and sea trout. Up to 40% of the salmon caught are multi sea winter fish. The biggest sea trout in 2008 was killed and mounted and weighed 9kg. The majority of the sea trout caught are around 3kg.

The fishing at Huseyjarkvisl includes a self catering lodge. The lodge has 3 bedrooms that sleeps 6, a fully equipped kitchen and a living room with TV. A chef can be provided for cooking for an additional price.

For those not wishing the use of a chef, there is a hotel and restaurant within awalking distance from the lodge.

Guides are available at Huseyjarkvisl for an additional price of 40,000 ISK per day.

Huseyjarkvisl lies within Skagafjordur District which is among the most renowned Saga areas of Iceland.

Skagafjordur is where many of the most fateful events of the power struggle and battles of the 12th century took place.
