Description

Brunna is located in Öxarfjordur, close to the National Park Asbyrgi. It runs through a variable terrain within an Icelandic forest, beautiful mountains and several waterfalls creating a unique and exciting backdrop. Thus it provides anglers with some very interesting fly fishing opportunities in any of the 45 named pools along its length. The average annual catch is 300-350 trout, ranging from 1½ to 10 pounds with a high average weight of 2½ to 3 pounds.

The surrounding area of Brunna is unforgettable and has many beautiful fishing spots. It stands apart from other rivers in the region because it is crystal clear for much of it's length until it meets a tributary from the glacial river Jokulsa which carries grey-coloured 'glacier sludge'.

The river can be divided into three different beats each of equal length. The landscape surrounding the lower part is more flat than the upper parts. Brunna emerges as the Gilsbakkaa River, which is a combination of fast and slow flowing waters with magnificent black cliffs on either sides. In the middle section it is joined by the Smjouml;rholsa River doubling its volume and picking up more speed. Here the river holds many of its superb wild brown and sea trout pools, testing angler's casting skills and ability to control the fly's drift through complex currents. In its lowest part the river widens and a long pool with classic grassy banks creating prime conditions for its signature Arctic char to flourish.

A self catering lodge is included and has a fully equipped kitchen, 2 bedrooms and a sleeping loft. The fishing lodge easily accommodates eight people and is by all standards offers comfortable and relaxing accommodation. In the summer time there is a tourist service area called Lundur which is within walking distance of the fishing lodge. A geothermal outdoor swimming pool is located in the Lundur area. Also, within a 10 minute drive, there is a small grocery store and a gas station at Asbyrgi National Park.Brunna is located in Öxarfjordur, close to the National Park Asbyrgi.
