Please contact the owners after booking for information on travelling to the fishery, because you have the choice of driving 640 km east from Reykjavik, or fly with Air Iceland to Egilsstadir and drive 80 km south, or travel with the car ferry Smyril Line to east coast of Iceland and drive from there.
The self caterling lodge at Breiddalsa is used for the trout fishing between May 1st and June 30th (see fishery description). From July 1st until Sep. 30th a comfortable self catering house is provided in the local town of Breiddalsvik (10 min. drive). Both lodges have fully made up beds, bathrooms, showers, living rooms and fully equipped kitchens. Optionally, full service food and drinks can be provided with extra cost.
The Angling Service Strengir will appoint an experienced guide to meet the fishing party on arrival at the main lodge. The guide will assist in getting settled in the rooms, show the water and advise on best pools, supervise a fair rod rotation system and visit you from time to time to see how you are doing. Optionally, a guide can be hired for the entire fishing for a fixed price.
The first fishing day always starts in the afternoon at 16:00 and fishing must terminate at 12:00 noon on the last fishing day.
On the first day, please arrive at the lodge between 14:00 and 16:00.
Fishing hours are maximum 6 hours in the afternoon and 6 hours in the morning depending on the length of daylight (during June & July the midnight sun gives 24 hours of daylight). Permission to fish during the bright summer nights is an option, and those who have experienced something like that never forget the magic of such moments.
All legal bait allowed such as spinning, worm and fly fishing. All fish caught may be kept, except for fish exceeding 70 cm in length, they should be released.
It is quite common in Iceland for 2 fishermen to share one rod.
On the last day, fishing is allowed until 12:00 noon. Please, depart the lodge no later than 14:00.
