Daniel returning a Tilbouries salmon

"The current low water must play into the hands of the lower beats" says Ross Macdonald.

Tilbouries had a good end to last week with 4 over Friday and Saturday. The beat has an enthusiastic ghilie who extolls the fly. Daniel can provide tuition for those new to salmon fishing. In the current conditions the beat is holding a lot of fish waiting to move up the system - read more.

Famous lower beat Park, suffered some of the worst damage caused by the flooding. The flood bank has now been reinstated and the roads and tracks have been repaired. How To Safely Release A Salmon

The best method of releasing a salmon is to leave it in the water and touch nothing but the hook with fingers or pliers. Whatever the method, care combined with speed, will give the fish the best chance of survival.

• Use barbless or pinched hooks
• Retrieve your fish quickly; release it immediately
• Keep the fish in the water
• Use a rubber or knotless cotton net, if one must be used
• Cut the leader if necessary
• Remove the hook carefully
• Hold the fish gently in a natural swimming position, facing upstream until it revives
• Don't pump the fish. That is, don't move the fish back and forth in the water.
