Fishing in Ireland

Anglers are spoilt for choice when it comes to Ireland, whatever their discipline.

Game, coarse and sea angling can all be enjoyed throughout Ireland in various locations but always with delightful scenery.

Game fishing in Ireland is for the usual species with the added bonus on the River Bann system of the dollaghan, a unique species of migratory brown trout.

As well as being one of Europe's top venues for coarse fishing, Ireland has a long coastline offering a wide range of sea angling opportunities with some surprising species to be found in the warm Gulf Stream.

NOW LIVE - Book a Fishing Guide online

Whilst Ireland may at first appear as a small country, the sheer number of rivers both large and small, not to mention a whole host of loughs and smaller waters, can often overwhelm an angler wondering where to fish.

Often the best way to find the most suitable fishing in a particular location and time of year is to employ a guide. Guides are eminently qualified through experience to take you somewhere that suits the conditions of the time and also look after and advise you throughout your day, ensuring you get the maximum enjoyment from it.

Our new section lists the main guides you can use and allows you to book days with them online. We are working with FishGuides Ireland to make sure that all the guides listed have the right knowledge and provide proper standards of service.

Fishing the River Bann River Bann System
The Bann and its tributaries are notable salmon rivers, but also have sea trout, trout and dollaghan and some excellent coarse fishing.
Fishing the River Foyle River Foyle System
This provides approximately 900 miles of prime salmon, sea trout and trout fishing and is one of Ireland's most prolific grilse and summer salmon fisheries.
Fishing the Munster Blackwater Munster Blackwater System
The Blackwater is fortunate also in that it has a catchment area of over 3,300 square kilometres. This helps to maintain a sufficient flow of water in the main channel to make fishing possible under a wide variety of weather conditions.
