The Currane system is made up of Currane, which is the main lake and 3 upper lakes, Namona, Derriana and Cloonaghlin alongwith the Cummeragh River. The nearby River Inny, which is a spate river is also known to have a good grilse run, and fishes well from mid June to end of September.
The Season starts January 17th and ends September 30th. The main Spring salmon run is from mid February To the end of May. The methods used for Spring Salmon fishing are trolling and fly-fishing. The average size of spring salmon would be 9 - 10 lbs.
The grilse run starts in May and continues on to late September. Trolling and fly-fishing are the methods used here also.
Lough Currane is regarded as one of the best sea-trout fisheries in Ireland, with the largest numbers and the best sizes being caught here. 98% of sea-trout bigger than 6lbs are caught on Currane.
Fly fishing would be the main method used with the occasional one being caught while trolling for salmon. The sea-trout season ends October 12th.
